Haz-Mat Incident
Wednesday, December 17, 2014

This morning C.F.C. units, along with Medic 94, Lancaster Ambulance 46, and the Chester County Haz-Mat team were dispatched to Route 10 south of Route 41 for a Hazardous Materials Incident.

Responding units were advised by Chester County Fire Board that they had received one call reporting four white containers in the roadway producing a gas.

Engine 27-2 arrived in the area with multiple containers between Highview Drive and Highpoint Road.

The Engine advised the Rescue to stop southbound traffic while the Chief stopped northbound.

Deputy 27 arrived and established the Route 10 command.

The Engine crew donned their SCBA and approached one of the containers.  The crew was able to find a packing label and make a preliminary identification on the product.  This information was relayed to the Haz-Mat team officer on-scene.

At that point, it was determined that the spilled product will need to be neutralized and the jugs secured and removed from the scene.

Fire Police units were requested to close the road between Routes 41 and 926 due to the duration of the incident.

Once the Haz-Mat units arrived, their crews worked to nutuarlize the spill, secure, and remove the containers from the scene.
