Working trailer fire on 41
Friday, October 3, 2014
At 1555 CFC units were dispatched to Route 41 south of Route 10 for haybales on the back of a truck that were on fire.
Chief 27 went enroute followed by E-2 and E-5, responding units were advised of a trailer loaded with haybales that were on fire.
Chief and the engines arrived reporting a 40' trailer loaded with strawbales with a working fire in the load.
E-2's crew stretched an attack line while E-5 established a water supply to E-2. E-5's crew then stretched a supply line from E-2 to a hydrant that was on the south side of the incident.
Fire police were requested to close 41 between Routes 10 and 926.
E-1, utility, and the QRS also responded bringing additional manpower to the scene.
Once a bulk of the fire was knocked, one lane of traffic was opened to allow the backlog of traffic through the scene.
Several loaders were contacted to respond to the scene to assist with off-loading the straw from the trailer so that the seat of the fire could be reached.
As the straw was being removed and air was able to hit it, the fire would flare up. Crews continued to wet down the straw and the trailer keeping the fire in check.
E-1 and E-5 were set-up in at a field near the incident where the loaders were carrying the straw, crews worked to wet down the straw as it was spread out in the field.
Once all the straw was removed from the trailer, E-2 re-positioned to assist E-1 and E-5 with wetting down the pile of straw.
THANKS TO GREENE VALLEY FARMS AND NULL'S TOWING FOR RESPONDING WITH LOADERS TO THE SCENE!
THANKS TO ENGINE 22 FOR COVERING OUR LOCAL AND ASSISTING WITH CLEAN-UP!
