Wednesday, January 1, 2014

At 1505 the Cochranville Fire Company along with an engine from the Keystone Valley Fire Department west station and an ambulance from Lancaster County Station 46 was dispatched to Action Manufacturing at 500 Bailey Crossroads Road in West Fallowfield Township for a furnace malfunction. Engine 27-2 went en-route at 1510 with a crew of 6 along with Engine 8-2 followed by Engine 27-5 with a crew of 6 and Utility 27 with a crew of 3. Deputy 27 arrived on-scene and advised the first in engine to proceed to the rear of the facility and assist with investigation while the balance of the units staged level 1 at the hard road. Upon investigation, a working fire was found in the dust collection bin on the exterior of the structure with no facility hazards in the area. Engine 2 went into service with an 1.75" hand line and hand tools. The bottom of the bin was opened up, the fire was darkened down. While this was being done, Engine 5 was directed to the scene and prepare to supply Engine 2 if needed. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked, personnel made access to the top of the bin. The top hatch on the bin was opened up and the remainder of the fire was suppressed. Crews investigated for extension. Once it was determined that there was no extension, crews wet down the bin and wrapped up operations. All units were available at 1616
