Haybales on Fire - 220 Block of Highland Road

Friday, September 10th, 2010 at 1033 hours, the Cochranville Fire Company was alerted for a field fire on the 220 block of Highland Road in West Fallowfield Township. Assistant Chief Hoopes and Engine 27-1 with a crew of four responded at 1038 hours. Assistant Chief Hoopes arrived on scene at 1042 hours reporting a truck and haybales were on fire. He then assumed "Highland Road Command." Engine 27-1 arrived on scene at 1043. The engine crew pulled the trash line and the forestry line. The crew with the forestry line focused on putting out the fire in the haybales that were already on the ground, while the crew with the trash line focused on putting out the fire in the haybales that were still on the truck. There was a gasoline tank on the truck that had caught fire also and had to be put out with an extinguisher. Engine 27-5 arrived on scene and supplied about 1500 gallons of water. Once the fire was under control at 1056 hours, crews pulled the haybales that were still on the truck off and soaked them. All units returned available at 1122 hours.
